Week #4 Assignment Due 8/8/13....

Wow its August!  3 more weeks of summer!

Read Chapters 7 And 8.

Question 1.  Based on your reading from chapter 7, what are the major types of body plans?  I your opinion which one has been the most successful?

Question 2.  How do body plans and scents... go together?  What are some benefits of being able to detect "scents" .

Question 3:  If no living organism could detect scents(odors), do you would organism like animals and flowers have evolved the ability to have their own distinct odors? (Be sure to elaborate)

Please Read Chapter 6 BODY PLANS.... In 1-2 paragraphs explain what the HOX genes or tool kit is and how it functions.  What could this type of "gene tool kit" be used for in the medical field?  Do you think it is something that we should use or leave alone?

Ok Week 2 Assignment

1.  Please go back to the week one assignment.... Question 3:  Question 3 asked you to discuss one significant passage or phrase.  Please go to any two of your classmates assignments and read their quotes from question #3 week one.  Then click reply and add a 2-3 sentence comment or critique on their chosen passage.  I shared a link with you on how to post... sorry of the poor audio quality!

2.  Read chapters 4 and 5 "teeth" and "Getting Ahead"... 
         Part 1.  What are 3 significant evolutionary facts about teeth? Think of things like who, what, why,                where and how.   Please list these "facts" or "significant events" that Shubin discusses.  Please give the  
          page number and a "short part of the sentence or quote" that it comes from. 


        Part 2.  What are some of the reasons why almost all animals have heads?  Give 3 examples that                   Shubin states from chapter 5.  Please include the page number and a brief part of the quote or 
        sentence. Also name 2 animals that don't have a head.... feel free to put a link to the picture of the                 animal in the blog if you think it will help.

Hello.... I hope your summer is going well here is your first Assignment...

Read Chapters 2-3 (I would read 1 as well but you can skip it) and answer the following questions.  Please post your answers on the blog and email me your answer as well in a WORD or GOOGLE doc.  If you use WORD you will need to send the answer as an attachment and if you use GOOGLE just share it with me at wsilva@ebps.net.

It is important that you get comfortable with google.... because you will be using it almost every day in AP Biology.

What does the author mean by "One bone followed by two bones, the little blobs"?  Name 4 organisms that have this "One bone followed by two bones, the little blobs" type of anatomy.  What would be a reason that these bones and blobs would be the same or different?
